Following a 3-0 whitewashing of visiting DePauw, the third-ranked Wittenberg volleyball team earned its 18th NCAC Tournament crown in the last 21 years and its sixth in a row. It also punched Wittenberg's ticket to the NCAA Division III Tournament for the 18th time overall and 17th straight year.
Fourteen pieces representing a wide range of cultures and dance styles were performed, Nov. 1-4, during the 2012 Fall Dance Concert. President Laurie M. Joyner attended the Sunday performance on Nov. 4. The pieces ranged from lyrical jazz to hip-hop to modern to tap. Thirteen of the pieces were choreographed by Wittenberg students and one was choreographed by Rashana Smith, adjunct professor of theatre and dance.
Only a month into her presidency, Laurie M. Joyner enjoyed summer alumni events at the always popular Graeter’s Ice Cream, owned and operated by three Wittenberg alumni, Chip Graeter, Debbie Fernandez Graeter and Bob Graeter. Joyner first traveled to Graeter’s in West Chester, Ohio, on July 30, to catch up with Cincinnati alumni and then headed to the Columbus-based Graeter’s, July 31, to meet and greet alumni in central Ohio.
With her inauguration three days away, President Laurie M. Joyner took time to reflect on her own faith journey as an invited speaker during weekly chapel, Sept. 4. Joyner touched on the influence of her early family experiences as well as the powerful influence of her own transformative experiences at a faith-based institution as an undergraduate student, faculty member and academic administrator.
President Laurie M. Joyner, Ph.D. presented at a session titled “Improving Student Retention and Completion: Lessons from Research and Evaluation” at the August annual meeting of the American Sociological Association (ASA) held in Denver, Colo., Aug. 17-20. While in the "Mile High City," Joyner also met with area alumni.
