Sexual Assault

What to do if you if you or someone you know has been sexually assaulted:

If a sexual offense should occur within the University District, the victim should call the Wittenberg police at the emergency line 327-6363.

All victims of sexual assault should take the following actions:

Illness or Serious Injury

A. In the event of a serious injury in which the victim requires an ambulance, call the ambulance directly by dialing 911.  Be prepared to give the dispatcher as much information as possible including your name, the nature of the injury, whether or not the injured person is conscious, the location of the injured person, and any other information pertinent to the situation. Immediately after calling 911, notify the Wittenberg Police and Security dispatcher (937-327-6363) of your actions.

Hazardous Materials/Gas Leak

The following steps are the basic response guidelines when any type of potentially hazardous gas or liquid appears to be leaking or posing a danger to persons:

1.) If the spill or leak is appears to be serious, the fire alarm system should be sounded in order to evacuate building occupants. Evacuate to a safe area at least 500 feet away from the building.

2.) Confine the fumes or fire by shutting the room door.

Harassing and Threatening Phone Calls

All calls threatening personal safety should be reported immediately to Wittenberg Police and Security at (937) 327-6363.  It is a criminal offense to make harassing or obscene phone calls

Advice on how to respond to a harassing or threatening phone call:

1. Hang up as soon as you realize the call is harassing. As soon as you hear an obscenity, improper question or no response to your "hello," hang up.

2. Do not ask the caller any questions to try and determine who the caller is. This is what the caller wants you to do.

Fire

Whenever a fire alarm sounds, unless directed otherwise by Wittenberg Police and Security officers and/or personnel of the Springfield Fire Division, residents must evacuate the building until the cause of the alarm has been determined and may not reenter the building until approval has been given from Springfield Fire Division personnel or a Wittenberg Police and Security officer.

Evacuation Assembly Areas for Campus Buildings

Anytime a residence hall needs to be evacuated for emergency purposes, students should gather at the designated assembly area so that a head count can be taken and information can be communicated.

Bomb Threat

If you receive a BOMB THREAT BY PHONE:

  • The bomb threat caller is the best source of information about the bomb. It is important that you WRITE down information, ASK the caller questions, LISTEN for information and CALL Wittenberg Police.
  • If you have received a harassing or vicious voice message, please DO NOT DELETE the message.
  • Assume the threat is real.
  • Remain calm.

Vehicle Accidents

Emergency Response Procedures

A. In the event that an accident occurs on or near campus, notify the Wittenberg Police and Security dispatcher at 1-937-327-6363 immediately. Or call 911.

B. Give your name, location and telephone number, if possible, and describe the nature of the accident for the dispatcher. Remain at this location until an officer arrives.

C. Advise the dispatcher if the nature of the accident requires an ambulance, fire truck or police.
