Paid Holidays

The university recognizes and observes 10 paid holidays each year:

New Year's Day*
Labor Day
Good Friday
Thanksgiving Day
Day after Thanksgiving
Memorial Day
Independence Day
Christmas Day*

*Two paid days are given for both Christmas and New Year holidays.

Retirement


Wittenberg University sponsors a Defined Contribution Retirement Plan to provide retirement benefits for eligible employees.  This is a voluntary plan available to help faculty and staff members supplement their retirement income.

Life and AD&D Insurance


The university provides a life insurance benefit for all employees. This benefit is fully funded by the university, and the value of the insurance is one and one half times the employee's annual salary, rounded to the next highest thousand. This insurance also carries an accidental death and dismemberment benefit. Optional supplemental life insurance is available, at the employee's expense. Enrollment for the optional life insurance is available within 31 days of hire or during the annual open enrollment which takes place during fall semester.

When You Have a Baby or Adopt a Child

  1. Once you verify your condition, advise your supervisor and set up a tentative schedule (in consultation with your physician) of when you will cease work and return to work.
  2. Submit a written request for maternity leave to the Director of Human Resources. Normally a staff member should make this request no later than the fourth month of pregnancy and the request should include your beginning date of employment, the expected date of delivery, and the proposed maternity leave. Administrative staff and Faculty also need to document any prior leaves.

Legally Separated or Divorced

You Need To...

  1. If you change your address or home phone number, you need to send Human Resources written notification of these changes.
  2. If you are changing your name, you need to send a copy of your Social Security card with your new name on it to Human Resources.

When You Get Married

  3. The University Health Plan provides special enrollment periods for certain life events such as marriage. If you are not currently enrolled in the University's health care plan you may do so. Also, any person that becomes your legal dependent through marriage is eligible to enroll.

Health and Dental Insurance

Wittenberg self-insures its health care plan and is a member of the ELCA-related University & College Employees' Health Benefit Trust. The university participates in a Preferred Provider Organization (PPO). For an employee who sees a PPO provider, there is a $15 co-pay for office visits, and benefits are paid at 90 percent. For providers not a member of the PPO, the benefits are paid at 70 percent.

Flexible Spending Account

  • Flexible Spending Accounts - A Flexible Spending Account (FSA) allows you to set aside a portion of your income, on a pre-tax basis, to pay for out-of-pocket medical expenses and/or dependent care expenses.  Contributions made to an FSA are deducted from your pay before federal, state or social security taxes are calculated, thus reducing your taxable income. Wittenberg has partnered with Total Administrative Services Corporation (TASC) to administer the Flexible Spending Accounts. Please refer to the links below for Summary Plan Descriptions.
