Women’s Studies Program

Writing Award

 The Women's Studies Program offers a prestigious Writing Award each year. The winning essay is chosen in a blind competition: two faculty readers from widely different fields read all the submissions, which can come from any field as long as they have a Women's Studies focus in either subject or methodology. We usually have a substantial and stong field of contenders for the $100 prize.

Requirements for the Minor

Women’s Studies 100 plus 16 semester hours in at least three different disciplines: three of the courses must be numbered 200 or above, and only one course may count for both the student’s major and the Women’s Studies minor. The student, in the spring of the senior year, will present a project or paper written for an upper-level course during their studies that exemplifies their work in Women's Studies.

Welcome!  Women's Studies is a lively, engaged, real-world course of study that seeks to understand the lives, status, and accomplishments of women around the world, and to explore how gender affects all our lives.   A deeply interdisciplinary field since its founding in the 1970s and 80s, Women's Studies grew from a conviction that traditional academic studies were impoverished by their ignorance of women's lives and their blindness to the gendered roles that,
