The pre-service teacher receives a $1,000 cash award. The recipient's name is added to a plaque displayed in Blair Hall and has their name announced at Wittenberg University's Honors Convocation, held each spring. Members of the senior class are selected by their peers and faculty members. Beginning in 2004, a major and minor teacher education candidate will be designated to receive this award.

Mrs. Voytko serves as the Administrative Assistant for both the undergraduate and graduate programs in the education department. Mrs. Kridler, who joined the department in October of 1997, very much enjoys working with students on their journey towards teacher licensure.
Working with the Director of Teacher Licensure, she keeps student records with regard to state teacher exams (the Praxis series) and helps remind students of additional requirements that must be met in order to receive a teaching license. She also helps gather and tabulate criteria relating to program and student assessment.
Dr. Welker, professor of Education, teaches courses in high school curriculum and instruction, and the philosophy and sociology of education. He has been involved in collaborative school reform efforts and helped found the Center for Professional Development and the Springfield-Wittenberg Teacher Institute.
