Extended Field Experience

Wittenberg provides students with more than just the classroom experience. The Biology Department allows students to not only learn in the classroom but also apply what they have learned in the field. For the Biology department, hands-on learning is the best way to experience biology.

These field experiences are 4-5 day excursions to a habitat away from Wittenberg.  Students sign up for a 1-credit extended field experience that is separate from the course.

Field Sites

Wittenberg University currently has two vastly different ecological field sites.  Cb’s place is a mixed hardwood forest and prairie located in southern Clark County, Ohio, while the Wakeley Lake house is located inside the Huron National Forest in Iosco County, Michigan.  Students will have an opportunity to study at these sites in course laboratories, extended field studies, or as part of independent research projects.

Introduction:

Departmental Honors in Biology is a program designed to honor some of our best students who have achieved excellence both in the classroom and directed biological research.  Departmental Honors in Biology are separate from the University Honors Program, although the research component for Departmental Honors may fulfill the research requirement for University Honors. Students are NOT required to be a member of the University Honors Program to complete Departmental Honors in Biology.
