Titled “The British Are Coming,” the opening performance of the 2012-2013 Springfield Symphony Orchestra (SSO) not only recognized four 20th-century composers but also President Laurie M. Joyner and her family during the event, Sept. 29.

Founded in 1943 and in addition to its regular concert series, the SSO sponsors a number of programs for youth and annually presents a free outdoor concert as part of the Springfield Arts Council’s Summer Festival.
