Scheduled Maintenance

Weekly maintenance notice:
Server and software maintenance will occur weekly from 5AM to 7AM on WEDNESDAYS. Please log out of campus computers (do not turn off). Work may be lost during this time!

Expanded scheduled maintenance window on Wednesday, March 10: On March 10th, two upgrades will be installed relating to campus e-mail and one related to Wittenberg's secure wireless network. To accommodate these upgrades, server maintenance will be from 12:00 AM until 8:00 AM WEDNESDAY MARCH 10th.

Upgrades to be installed:

Exchange (Outlook, Outlook Web Access) e-mail servers will receive major software upgrades required by Microsoft. These service packs take 1-2 hours to install and must be installed on all Exchange e-mail servers at the same time. THIS WILL NOT IMPACT INCOMING E-MAIL. E-mail will still be delivered, but may be delayed during the upgrade. You may or may not be able to access your e-mail during this time.

Spam and attachment filter will be replaced. New in this version: when a message arrives from off campus with a suspicious attachment, the attachment will NOT be deleted. Instead, you'll receive a notification in your Inbox about the message, advising you to check Spam Quarantine in WittLink portal. Some attachments in spam quarantine may be malicious, but this gives you the opportunity to decide whether or not the message should be delivered to your Inbox. Files with multiple file extensions (more than one "." in the name) and other common errors made by those sending legitimate attachments to campus will be in spam quarantine rather than simply deleted. The RECIPIENT of the message will receive an e-mail about the failed delivery along with the original text of the e-mail message. The sender will not be notified. **Note: Your desktop virus protection is separate from the spam and attachment filter and may warn you or prevent you from opening a file even after you've chosen to deliver an attachment from spam quarantine. For more information and examples, see http://www4.wittenberg.edu/administration/cctr/e-mail/spamquarantinegene... .

Wittenberg Wireless: A new client is available that handles Apple's Snow Leopard operating system. Every computer using Wittenberg Wireless beginning Wednesday will take slightly longer to connect the first time while the old software is removed and the new copy installed. The delay will only occur the first time the computer connects through the web page.
