During the summer of 2010, I studied abroad in Santiago, Chile with Dr. Blanco’s study abroad program. The program helped me immensely. My fear of speaking disappeared, and I gained a lot of confidence in myself and my abilities understanding Spanish. If I hadn’t studied abroad, I would have never thought to leave the U.S. to work. After graduating from Wittenberg in December of 2010, I returned to Santiago and taught English for a year. I was able to travel around Chile and really get to know the culture. After being there again for a year, I would say that I am almost fluent in Spanish and very confident in myself. What I learned both times being abroad is something that is priceless. I really have a different perspective on life now that I wouldn’t have without studying and living abroad. The people I met, the places I saw, and the things I learned because I studied abroad have shaped the person I am today. If I can give you two words of advice: GO ABROAD! Whether it be studying or working abroad, it is an experience of a lifetime. You won’t regret it.
