Learning by doing – that’s the difference in a Wittenberg education. Our psychology program is designed for students to develop a comprehensive understanding of human behavior, while challenging them to be active and engaged through experiential learning.

At Wittenberg, education is much more than classes and books. Our liberal arts foundation means that we help our students take a holistic approach to learning. We encourage our students to think critically, design and carry out research, and develop the needed skills to thrive in the field of psychology. Thanks to their own initiative and the active support of department faculty, psychology students have had the chance to publish research papers, participate in conferences and conduct sophisticated, cutting-edge research.

Our Lutheran heritage helps our students develop and embody compassion in action, while ensuring ethical, responsible leadership in the field. Students can then apply their knowledge through real-world engagement, helping to co-lead a therapy group for children with poor social skills, or interning with a hospital or community health center to help others with mental health issues, for example.

Students in Wittenberg’s psychology program have continued on to graduate school at institutions such as Boston College, Case Western Reserve, Georgetown, The Ohio State University and Yale. Other graduates have entered into their profession working with AmeriCorps, Eckard Family Youth Alternatives, Lutheran Volunteer Corps and the Northeast Mental Health Center.
