Internship Experience at Pacific Northwest National Laboratories (PNNL) - Richland, Washington
Class of 2016 scholars Kelcey Cook and Haley Conkel went to PNNL this year to experience a summer of research and study in their specific field. More information to come on their experience.

- Avetec, a leader in simulation, modeling, and high-performance computing applications, arranges STEM internships for Noyce Scholars at PNNL. The students are assigned to a STEM research project related to their major field of study and produce a research report on their topic.The PNNL experience will challenge the students to engage in inquiry-, problem-, and project-based learning and then apply their learning both in the research area and in pedagogy, allowing them to accelerate their subject matter mastery and their teaching skills.

PNNL Interns for the summer of 2013 had a great time: newly chosen were Makenzie Daniels, Skylar Folkens & Hannah Fournier; they were joined by 2012-13 Noyce Scholars Rachel Evans and Katy Williams.

Local Internships in Informal Educational Settings
Erica Precht '16 and Andre Lorenz '17 participated in the Hagen Center Promise Neighborhood Internships this summer. The goal was to teach middle school children concepts in math and science while having fun during the summer days. Both Lorenz and Precht found the internship to be much more than just teaching. They were able to create relationships with the children and learn more about the Springfield community through experimenting, taking trips and having fun with the kids. The staff was supportive and passionate about the cause that allowed to students also to be excited.
Erica Precht says... "The internship provided me the opportunity to teach something I am passionate about but also I learned to listen to a group of individuals that may not always get that chance. I will carry this experience around with me for the rest of my life."

- Internship with the Susan Hirt Hagen Center for Civic and Urban Engagement in the Strengthening After-School Programs. Under the guidance of a mentor, interns will be responsible for planning and teaching math or science lessons for elementary/middle school students.
- Tutor-Counselor work with Witt's Upward Bound program. The primary responsibilities would be to assist with STEM and computational science coursework and related co-curricular activities to excite secondary school students about STEM disciplines.
Available for students who are completing their freshmen or sophomore year.
