The Robert C. Noyce Scholarship Program nationally was created to respond to the critical shortage of K-12 teachers of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). The program seeks to encourage talented STEM students and professionals to pursue teaching careers in our nation's schools.
Here at Wittenberg, a grant was received in the Fall of 2010, to encourage math and science majors to pursue a career at the secondary level in high-need school districts. The intent is to sponsor 16 awards over a five-year period averaging $25,000 per year to be awarded to juniors and seniors. Read more about the history of Wittenberg and the Noyce Grant at this link.
Overall responsibility for grant execution, including convening a STEM Leadership Team, developing school partnerships, supervising the external evaluator, budget oversight, and grant reporting, belongs to co-Project Directors: Dr. Gina Post, Associate Professor of Math Education and Dr. Kathy Reinsel, Associate Professor of Biology.
