Brenda Bertrand

Brenda Bertrand, Director, Foreign Language Learning Center.  Along with many years of teaching French and Francophone language, literature, and culture, Bertrand has also done extensive work on language pedagogy, focusing particularly on the active incorporation of culture into beginning and intermediate language courses. She has given several conference presentations on this subject as well as collaborated on a second-year textbook. Bertrand's active pedagogical interest remains the concept of immersion language learning and its diversity, from simulated settings such as the Concordia Language Villages to more technological venues.  Bertrand's outside interests include traveling, creative writing, and pottery. Her favorite past-time is hiking in the woods with her two sons. Bertrand earned her B.A. at Cornell College in Iowa and her M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Iowa.
