Wittenberg offers majors and minors in three languages - French, German and Spanish, as well as minors in Chinese and Japanese. Language study at Wittenberg is also distinguished by its contribution of Chinese, Japanese and Russian to our comprehensive East Asian Studies and Russian Area Studies programs, both of which have gained reputations for excellence among similar programs in the United States. Students who take Chinese or Japanese can do a major or a minor in East Asian Studies. Students taking Russian can major or minor in Russian Area Studies.
Your reading, writing and conversation skills will be central to your language study. Since living among native speakers is the best way to achieve fluency, studying abroad is strongly recommended for language majors and minors. Programs can be structured for a summer semester or longer. As a member of organizations such as the Consortium of International Exchange, the Institute for the International Education of Students and the International Student Exchange Program, Wittenberg can offer you many desired placements for an unforgettable experience.
