The major offers an interdisciplinary approach through exposure to various content areas including business, sociology, economics, and ethics. This program reflects the unique capabilities of Wittenberg University and its strong liberal arts tradition. The courses in the major provide you with knowledge in all of the essential content areas, including sport marketing, management, ethics, and global and cultural aspects of sport. Through initiatives in and out of the classroom, you’ll gain the knowledge and skills that are designed to help you succeed.
Experiential learning through field experiences, internships, classroom activities, and case studies are emphasized throughout the curriculum and by our faculty.
Additionally, you will be encouraged to seek out internships and research experiences that match your interests in the field. This region of the country offers many opportunities within professional and minor league teams, i.e., Columbus Blue Jackets, Columbus Clippers, Dayton Dragons, Cincinnati Reds, Cincinnati Bengals, etc.; Area high school and college athletic departments; Municipal parks and recreation departments; Private sport facilities, including golf and tennis clubs, health clubs; Marketing and athlete representation agencies; and, Wittenberg’s Athletic Department.
Research experience – You have the opportunity to work with Sport Management faculty on research areas that interest you such as sport marketing, branding, sport law, event and facility management.
The Applied Projects in Sport Management course – You will gain hands-on experience, engaging in project-based learning, which allows you to utilize knowledge from other courses, as well as critical thinking, communication and decision-making skills.
