The minor in East Asian Studies requires 20-22 semester hours, 12-14 of which must be taken at Wittenberg. Competency in Japanese or Chinese language at the 112 level must be demonstrated. Japanese or Chinese 111 and/or 112 may be included among the five minor courses if competency is demonstrated by taking one or both of these classes. Students who place out of 111 and/or 112 must substitute other East Asian Studies approved classes to bring their credit count to 20-22. Minor courses must include four semester hours each from at least two of the following disciplines : communication, economics, geography, history, literature, political science, psychology, religion or sociology. Eight semester hours must be at the 200 level or higher.
In addition to completing the course requirements and maintaining the minimum required GPA of 2.0, EAST Minors are also required to attend four (4) departmental colloquia offered throughout the year prior to graduation. These colloquia are designed to enrich the EAST Minor education experience.
