Knowing that intellectual inquiry creates an enduring passion for learning, Wittenberg’s Department of Chemistry embraces the life of the mind by promoting the highest standards of scientific inquiry among students and faculty.
Winner of the 2012 NIOSH College and University Health and Safety Award for the most comprehensive laboratory safety program in undergraduate higher education, the chemistry program prepares students for the future in an active, engaged learning environment, which offers comprehensive training across the spectrum of the discipline: biochemistry, analytical, inorganic, organic and physical chemistry.
Our focus on undergraduate teaching and our small class size ensure that all students receive hands-on experience with a wide array of instrumentation. The Department of Chemistry also features a well-funded summer research program, excellent training in communication skills and over 50 years of accreditation by the American Chemical Society.
After Commencement, students in the chemistry program have gone on to work at organizations such as Eli Lilly, Procter & Gamble, BASF and the Ohio EPA; pursue Ph.D. programs at Carnegie Mellon, Notre Dame, Rice and The Ohio State University; and pursue medical school and other allied health programs at the Penn State College of Medicine, Ohio University School of Osteopathic Medicine, and The Ohio State University College of Dentistry.
Chemistry majors pursuing a career in secondary education in math and science may be eligible for the Robert C. Noyce Scholarship. Learn more about the Noyce Scholarship on the Wittenberg Noyce Scholarship homepage.
