Wittenberg’s active, engaged learning environment stretches beyond the typical classroom setting and goes right into the field. Collaborative student-faculty research is the norm at Wittenberg, as is independent research and hands-on opportunities for further study including at the Duke University Marine Lab, the Bahamas and more.

With  more than 40 courses and an array of laboratory and field experiences, our dedication to liberal arts education means that students have every opportunity to discover and then pursue their passion.  Our Lutheran heritage infuses a commitment to serve in our students as it shapes them into ethical leaders.

For the last 80 years, Wittenberg has had one of the most successful biology programs in the country. Within five years of graduation, 85 percent of biology majors matriculate into a graduate or professional program.

The Higher Education Data Sharing Consortium also ranked Wittenberg 46th out of nearly 600 baccalaureate colleges in the number of graduates earning Ph.D.'s in the life sciences.

Graduates have studied in the areas of medicine, physical therapy, nursing and dentistry at nationally acclaimed institutions such as Case Western Reserve, Cornell,Dartmouth, Duke, Johns Hopkins and Indiana. Others have gone directly into their professions at organizations such as Eli Lilly, North Carolina Aquarium and the U.S. Navy Marine Mammal Program.
