May 2, 2000--
In action last weekend the Tigers participated in the non-scoring Bearcat Classic at the University of Cincinnati, and several athletes traveled to Wooster for the Heptathlon/Decathlon portion of the NCAC Championships.

At the Bearcat Classic, sophomore Sarah Weide (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) finished second overall in the 800 meter run with a provisional qualifying time for nationals (2:14.8). She earned NCAC Runner of the Week for her performance.

In the decathlon event at the NCAC Championships, junior Josh Guerrieri (Avon, Ohio/Avon) won the event and broke his own NCAC record for points scored with 6,180. His previous mark set last season was 5,899. This NCAA provisional qualifying mark earned him NCAC Athlete of the Week.

In the week ahead, Wittenberg travels to Ohio Wesleyan for the NCAC Championships on Friday and Saturday.


April 25, 2000--
The Tigers participated in the All-Ohio Championships where the men's team finished 13th of 18 teams and the women's team was 10th of 16 teams. Several athletes had top performances for the Tigers at the meet.

In men's action, junior Kevin Callison (Springfield, Ohio/Kenton Ridge) finished third in the shot put. For the women, junior Amy Sonnanstine (Plymouth, Mich./Canton) was third in the pole vault, sophomore Sarah Weide (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) finished third in both the 1500 meter and 800 meter runs, senior Jaimi Timmons (Springfield, Ohio/Mt. Vernon) was third in the discus and freshman Abi Gerstle (Kettering, Ohio/Fairmont) was third in the 3,000 steeplechase.


April 18, 2000--
The Tigers hosted their own Wittenberg Invitational last week with competition from several top teams in the region.

Several athletes had top performances for the Tigers at the meet. In men's action, sophomore Tony Pellettiere (Gurnee, Ill./Warren) earned Athlete of the Week honors by the NCAC for running a conference-best in the 800 meter run where he finished fourth. Junior Kevin Callison (Springfield, Ohio/Kenton Ridge) finished first in both the shot put and javelin competition and freshman Pete Lalli (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville) finished first in the pole vault for the Tigers.

For the women, freshman Emily Enderle (Covington, Ohio/Covington) finished first in the javelin, junior Amy Sonnanstine (Plymouth, Mich./Canton) was the top placer in the pole vault and sophomore Sarah Weide (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) was tops in the 800 meter run.

The Tigers have continued to place high at spring meets and the true test of their success will be faced this Saturday at the All-Ohio Championships at Ohio Wesleyan.


April 11, 2000--
The Tigers battled wind and rain to take a fifth place finish in the Defiance Classic in last weeks competition for both the men's and women's teams.

Several Tigers took top spots in both the men's and women's competition. For the women, freshman LaRissa O'Neal (Indianapolis, Ind./Broad Ripple) finished first in the pole vault while junior Amy Sonnanstine (Plymouth, Mich./Canton) took second in the event. Senior Jaimi Timmons (Springfield, Ohio/Mt. Vernon) won the discus with a throw of 119 feet and 10 inches to earn Field Athlete of the Week by the NCAC.

In men's competition, junior Josh Guerrieri (Avon, Ohio/Avon) scored 5,486 points to win the decathlon and earn Field Athlete of the Week by the NCAC, while sophomore Chris Silliman (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) earned fourth place in the discus.

In action this week the Tigers host their own Quad meet with Urbana University, Hillsdale College and the University of Findlay on Friday.


April 4, 2000--
The Tigers participated in their first scoring meet of the outdoor season and both the men's and women's teams sprinted away with first place finishes in the competition.

Several Tigers took top spots in both the men's and women's competition. For the women, senior Emily Hillard (Sylvania, Ohio/Notre Dame) finished first in the long jump while junior Amy Sonnanstine (Plymouth, Mich./Canton) took first in the pole vault.

In men's competition, junior Kevin Callison (Springfield, Ohio/Kenton Ridge) took first in the javelin and the shot put while sophomore Chris Silliman (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) finished first in the discus. In the pole vault, senior Chris Pellegrini (Bristol, Vt./Bristol) took first place and the men's 4 x 800 relay finished first with a season best finish.

This weekend Wittenberg travels to compete in the Defiance Classic.


March 27, 2000--
Wittenberg participated in its first meet of the outdoor season last week in a non-scoring invitational at Cedarville College.

The Tigers travel to the University of the South on Saturday for their next competition. First year head coach Steve Shutt returns a veteran squad of performers including several record-holders who are expected to continue their successful careers into 2000.
