Tigers Suffer First NCAC Loss At Feet Of Hiram

Leslie Oliver
HIRAM, Ohio - The Wittenberg women's soccer team fell for the first time in North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) action Saturday, dropping a 1-0 decision to the Hiram Terriers in a closely contested match that easily could have gone the other way.

Wittenberg piled on 13 shots throughout the match, landing six on goal, paced by freshman midfielder Leslie Oliver (Enon, Ohio/Greenon) with four shots, two on goal. The Tigers' nation-leading defense was stiff as usual, allowing Hiram just two shot, both on goal. It only took one to decide the game, however, as Hiram scored on a breakaway early in the second half.

The Tigers' offense, though managing 13 shots, was hampered by four offsides calls, versus zero for Hiram. The loss drops the Tigers to 7-2-3 overall and 2-1-0 in conference play. Wittenberg drops out of first place in the NCAC, with Denison and Earlham both winning Saturday to move to 2-0 and capture shares of the No. 1 spot.

Wittenberg travels to Kenyon on Tuesday, Oct. 13, at 4 p.m. to continue NCAC action.
