Tigers Fall Short In Heartbreaking Loss To Wooster

Joelle Ghanem
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers put up a great fight, but in the end fell to the Wooster Scots who scored a heartbreaking goal in the last thirty seconds of regulation pulling out the 10-11 victory. The loss dropped Wittenberg to 3-4 overall and 0-2 in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Wooster advanced to 4-3 overall and 1-0 in conference play.

Wittenberg showed great tenacity as they got after the Wooster Scots, trying to come up with their first win in the conference. The ladies in Red and White played with the lead for most of the day, but gave up two heartstopping goals, both within the last minute of each half. Offensively for the tigers, senior Lizzie Amorello (Sutton, Mass./Worcester Academy) racked up a hat trick while little sister Maggie Amorello (Sutton, (Mass./Worcester Academy) registered two goals on her own.

Also scoring today for the Tigers were junior Cait Mather (Mason, Ohio/Mason), sophomores Lauren Stets (Westerville, Ohio/North) and Joelle Ghanem (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman), and freshmen Lisa Blahut (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles) and Jordan Beauchamp (Noblesville, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern).

Statistically, Wittenberg held an advantage in caused turnovers, led by Mather with four. Sophomore goalkeeper Bonnie Kenney (Lutherville, Md./Park School) registered eight saves on the day with seven successful clears.

The Fighting Lutherans next face league opponent Ohio Wesleyan on the road. The game will be held Wednesday, April 9 at 7 p.m.
