Wittenberg Falls To Nationally Ranked Gettysburg

ORLANDO, Fla. - After a tune-up to open the season, the Wittenberg Tigers were handled by fourth-ranked Gettysburg 17-3 in their Spring Break trip finale in Orlando, Fla.

The loss dropped the Tigers to 1-1 after they opened the season with a 20-8 win over Neumann on Tuesday.

Goals for Wittenberg were provided by senior Molly Floyd (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Hathaway Brown) and junior Lizzie Amorello (Sutton, Mass./Worcester Academy) in the first half and freshman Maggie Amorello (Sutton, Mass./Worcester Academy) in the second half.

Wittenberg sophomore goalkeeper Bonnie Kenney (Lutherville, Md./Park School) was credited with five saves. Also of note was the play of junior Beth Vonderbrink (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) with two caused turnovers and Maggie Amorello with a team-best three draw controls.

The Tigers head for home tonight and are scheduled to open the home portion of the 2008 season Saturday against Rochester Institute of Technology. The game is slated to start at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 8, at Edwards-Maurer Field in Springfield.
