
November 16, 1999--
The Men's and Women's cross country teams finished their season this past weekend at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Meet at Ohio Northern University. The Men's team finished 17th out of 29 teams and the Women's team finished 21st out of 29 teams from Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio.
Freshman Justin Bradshaw(Dublin, Ohio/Scioto) , finished 33rd out of a field of 203 runners. Bradshaw covered the 8k course in a time of 25:48, which was his personal best time by 42 seconds. Sophomore Sarah Weide (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Homestead) , the first female Wittenberg finisher, finished 33rd out of 212 runners. She improved her personal best time 24 seconds to a time of 19:14. Both Bradshaw and Weide earned NCAA All-Regional honors for their outstanding performances at the meet.
Senior Kyle Gillett (Attica, Ohio/Seneca East)finished his senior cross country season with a great race. He finished second for the Tigers in 64th place with a time of 26:28. Freshman Abi Gerstle(Kettering, Ohio/Fairmont) and Junior Katie McClain(Westlake, Ohio/Westlake) each improved their personal best times by more than 30 seconds, to 19:54 and 20:42 respectively.
November 2, 1999--
Wittenberg participated in the NCAC Championships last weekend in Delaware, Ohio, where the men finished sixth of 10 teams and the women finished seventh of nine teams.
Freshman Justin Bradshaw (Dublin, Ohio/Scioto) earned first team All-NCAC honors for his performance in the meet where he finished sixth overall. Sophomore Sarah Weide (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Homestead) finished 13th overall and earned second team All-NCAC honors.
Wittenberg will send several runners to the NCAA Regional meet held at Ohio Northern University on Nov. 13.
October 26, 1999--
Wittenberg traveled to Gettysburg College for its annual invitational last week. The Tiger men's team finished 13th of 31 and the women's team finished 21st of 33.
Top runners for the Tigers were freshman Justin Bradshaw (Dublin, Ohio/Scioto) for the men and sophomore Sarah Weide (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Homestead) for the women. Bradshaw finished 32nd overall and Weide finished 27th overall out of 235 runners. Weide was also honored as the NCAC Athlete of the Week for her finish at the invitational.
Several runners finished with their best times of the season at the Gettysburg meet including sophomore Joe Staviscak (Lakewood, Ohio/Saint Edward) with a time of 32:16.01 and freshman Abi Gerstle (Kettering, Ohio/Fairmont) with a time of 20:34.07.
Wittenberg will participate in the NCAC Championships on Saturday, Oct. 30 in Delaware, Ohio in its final meet of the season.
October 18, 1999--
Wittenberg was idle last week, but will travel to Gettysburg College this Saturday for its annual invitational.
The Tigers' top runner for the men this season is freshman Justin Bradshaw (Dublin, Ohio/Scioto) with his personal best time of 26:30 at the Ohio Northern Invitational. Sarah Weide (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Homestead) is the women's top runner with a personal best time of 19:38 at the Cedarville Friendship Invitational.
Wittenberg will participate in the NCAC Championships on Saturday, Oct. 30 in Delaware, Ohio.
October 12, 1999--
Wittenberg participated in the All-Ohio Championships last Friday in Delaware, Ohio where both teams had successful runs. The men finished 11th of 19 Division III teams and the women finished 13th of 21 Division III teams.
Senior Matt Howe (Centreville, Va./Chantilly) and sophomore Luke Clarkson (Bascom, Ohio/Hopewell-Louden) each finished with their best times of the season with Howe finishing in a time of 28:52 and Clarkson in a time of 29:16.
For the women, sophomore Sarah Weide (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Homestead) finished in a time of 20:45 to lead the Tigers.
This week the Tigers are idle, but will see competition again when they travel to the Gettysburg Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 23.
October 4, 1999-- Wittenberg traveled to Chicago, Ill. for competition in the Loyola Lakefront Invitational. The Wittenberg men's team finished 20th of 25 teams against Division II, III and NAIA programs. The women's team finished 22nd of 27 in competition with Division II, III and NAIA teams.
Three athletes finished with their personal bests in the Loyola Invitaitonal. Sophomore Dave Hyde (Naperville, Ill./Central) finished in a time of 27:24, freshman Nick DeWald (Mansfield, Ohio/Senior) recorded his best finish with a time of 27:18 and freshman Amanda Tanner (Cincinnati, Ohio/Madiera) improved to a 22:17 time.
This week the will travel to Delaware, Ohio for the annual All-Ohio Championships on Friday.
Freshman Justin Bradshaw(Dublin, Ohio/Scioto) finished 24th overall in a time of 26:58 and sophomore Dave Hyde(Naperville, Ill./Central) finished 42nd overall in a time of 27:52. Freshman Nick DeWald(Mansfield, Ohio/Senior) recorded his best finish for the season wih a time of 27:59.
Sophomore Sarah Weide(Ft. Wayne, In./Homestead) was the top runner for the women finishing 15th overall and ran her best time of 19:38. Finishing second for the Tigers in 45th Melanie Ziarko (Hiram, Ohio/Crestwood) who improved her time to 20:42.
The Tigers travel to the Loyloa Lakefront Invitational in Chicago, Ill for competition this Saturday.
Freshman Justin Bradshaw(Dublin, Ohio/Scioto) was honored as the NCAC athlete of the Week for his performance in his first collegiate race. Bradshaw finished first overall with a time of 26:30 and seven seconds ahead of his nearest competitor. Sophomore Sarah Weide(Ft. Wayne, In./Homestead) was the top runner for the women finishing third overall with a time of 19:52, just seven seconds off her best time from last season.
The Tigers, who were idle last week, see competition this Saturday at the Cedarville Invitational.
