Head Coach: Steve ShuttSteve Shutt begins his first year as head coach of the Wittenberg Cross Country and Track & Field programs. Shutt comes to Wittenberg after seving as assistant men's and women's coach at Hillsdale College where he coached national qualifiers in the men's and women's 400, women's 400 hurdles, men's Hammer, and an All-American in the women's high jump. While at Hillsdale, Shutt also coached provisional qualifiers in the pole vault, triple jump, and the 4x400 relay.
Prior to his tenure at Hillsdale College, Shutt was an assistant coach at Slippery Rock University, coaching All-Americans in the pole vault and decathlon while completing his coursework for a master's degree in Exercise Science. Shutt has been actively involved in numerous camps and clinics involving events such as men's and women's pole vault, high jump, javelin, multi-events, and cross country. In addition, Shutt received Silver Level Accreditation from the USATF Pole Vault Development Committee and is a USATF Level II Coach in the jumps and throws.
A graduate of Allegheny College with degrees in Physics and Psychology, Shutt was a four-year letter winner for the Gators and a conference champion in the pole vault.
Assistant Coach: Ralph Bergdoll
Ralph has become a part of the Wittenberg coaching staff this year after over 40 years of coaching in the Dayton area. A graduate of West Virginia Wesleyan and Xavier University, Bergdoll is also certified in Level I and II with the USATF and is a Level I instructor.
As a scholastic coach Bergdoll has experience with both cross-country and track programs. For ten consecutive years (1990-1999), he has had competitors qualify for the OHSAA State track meet. In 1988 Bergdoll was inducted in the Ohio Track and Cross Country Coaches Hall of Fame. He has served many years as a meet manager and has conducted four Level I schools for USATF
