Pablo Russo was named the Wittenberg University men's and women's tennis head coach in September 2006. Russo took over the two programs after the departure of Dave Engle, who retired from coaching the Tigers after nearly a decade.
The appointment marks Russo's debut as a collegiate head coach. A 2005 graduate of Spring Hill College in Mobile, Ala., Russo has taught tennis lessons and served as a club pro at The Lakes Country Club and Medallion Country Club in Westerville, Ohio, and at Springfield Racquet Club in recent years, and he is currently the head pro at Medallion Country Club and director of tennis at the Wickertree Tennis Club in Columbus. While working summers in Ohio, Russo was a standout student-athlete at Spring Hill, earning All-America honors in 2004 and 2005, conference Player of the Year honors three straight years and leading his team to three consecutive conference championships.
He also put the 'student' in student-athlete, earning Dean's List recognition throughout his junior and senior years at Spring Hill. With a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 while studying business management, Russo, the men's tennis team captain as a senior, capped his career with his school's Senior Student-Athlete of the Year honors.
A native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he was a nationally ranked youth player, Russo studied at Universidad Argentina de la Empresa in his hometown from 1996-99. Before earning a degree in finance, Russo moved to the United States and enrolled at Spring Hill. He currently resides in Urbana, Ohio, with his wife, Erin, and their son, Gianni.

Assistant Coach Steve Brown
Assigned to the post of Wittenberg University assistant men's and women's tennis coach since 1999, Brown is no stranger to the local tennis scene. A 1968 graduate of the University of Dayton, Brown previously served as boys' tennis head coach at Yellow Springs High School from 1990-95 and again in 1999. He also coached the girls' team from 1990-94. In boys action he never lost a conference match, and his teams compiled a record of 152-57 between them. He was twice voted Coach of the Year by the Miami Valley Tennis Coaches Association.
During his career at Wittenberg, Brown has helped mold some of the finest players in school history, including 2002 NCAC Men's Player of the Year Casey Clagett, 2002 NCAC Newcomer of the Year Emily Figel and four-year all-conference standout Bryan Heft, all of whom qualified once for the national singles championships.
An active tennis player for many years, Brown also has had two daughters play in college. Renee played for Kenyon and graduated in 1998, while Erin played for the College of Wooster and graduated in 1999.
