On the men's side, Engle's career record was 108-74. The Tigers have placed third or better in the conference tournament in four of his last seven years at the helm.
For the women, Engle's record was 93-106, including a record of 31-36 in North Coast Athletic Conference regular season matches. His teams made steady improvement, posting double-digit victory totals in each of the last seven seasons, including one of the best records in school history in 2005 at 13-5 overall.
A longtime resident of the Springfield area, Engle was a teacher and coach at Shawnee High School from 1972-99. This was his second tour of duty at Wittenberg after serving as an assistant men's basketball coach to Larry Hunter for three years from 1984-86. He then became head boys' basketball coach at Shawnee, a position he held for six years. Engle was boys' tennis coach for six years and girls' tennis coach for seven years at Shawnee.
A member of the United States Professional Tennis Association, Engle was previously a pro at Springfield Country Club and for the City of Springfield. A 1964 graduate of Northeastern High School in Clark County, Engle received his bachelor's degree from Bowling Green State University and his master's degree from Wright State in 1973.

Assigned to the post of Wittenberg University assistant men's and women's tennis coach from 1999-2006, Brown was no stranger to the local tennis scene. A 1968 graduate of the University of Dayton, Brown previously served as boys' tennis head coach at Yellow Springs High School from 1990-95 and again in 1999. He also coached the girls' team from 1990-94. In boys action he never lost a conference match, and his teams compiled a record of 152-57 between them. He was twice voted Coach of the Year by the Miami Valley Tennis Coaches Association.
An active tennis player for many years, Brown also has had two daughters play in college. Renee played for Kenyon and graduated in 1998, while Erin played for the College of Wooster and graduated in 1999.
