Senior Matt Borland (Kettering, Ohio/Alter) made a spectacular individual play to open the socring in the 10th minute when he beat two defenders and the goalkeeper with a hard shot to the far post.
From there, the two sides battled to a stalemate, with the young Yellow Jackets at times controlling the action against the senior-laden Tigers. It would take a goal in the 80th minute by Ryan Ruef (Plain City, Ohio/Jonathan Alder) to settle the action as the Tigers doubled their lead.
The highlight of the night would come eight minutes later, when freshman Daniel Broidy (Bexley, Ohio/Bexley) tallied his first collegiate goal when he collected a short pass from sophomore Robbie Farquhar (Bexley, Ohio/Bexley) at the top of the 18 and knocked it off the keeper and into the net.
The win for the Tigers continues to set a new benchmark for early-season success for the program. It also comes on the eve of a highly-anticipated regional match-up coming up at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24. The 25th-ranked Tigers will play host to the top team in region and 8th-ranked team in NCAA Division III.
