Wittenberg Overcomes Own Goal To Beat Hiram In OT

Matt Borland
HIRAM, Ohio - If anyone ever told the Wittenberg Tigers that the ends justify the means, they certainly took that to heart. On a strange Saturday, the Tigers contributed to all three goals in a 2-1 win over Hiram, which took one overtime to finally end.

Just minutes into the second period, a poorly placed Hiram shot deflected off Justin Jenkins (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) to tie the game. Throughout the rest of the second period they could not find another goal, allowing the game to slip to overtime where they fortunately found the net on a Matt Borland (Kettering, Ohio/Alter) goal, off a corner kick from Shane Price (Minford, Ohio/Minford), who picked up the assist.

Senior netminder Ben McAnnis-Entenman (Portland, Ore./Cleveland) picked up five saves, moving his season-to-date figure to an impressive 35 saves in nine starts, good for 3.89 saves per game.

Price scored the Tigers' first goal just 10 minutes into the game without an assist. Hiram dominated the shooting game, posting 16 against Wittenberg's nine. Of those nine, four were on-goal, including two from Price, one from Borland and one from Jenkins.

The Tigers depart for their last non-conference game of the regular season on Wednesday, Sept. 26, traveling to Muskingum for a 4:30 p.m. game.
