Tigers Rally To Tie Oberlin

Shane Price
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - Sometimes a tie can feel like a win. For the Wittenberg Tigers on a rainy Saturday night, the 1-1 tie with Oberlin probably didn't feel exactly like a win, but the players and coaches were still breathing a sigh of relief.

The game was stopped by lightning and torrential rains with 3:19 remaining in the second half. The Tigers moved to 4-5-2 overall and 0-1-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference, while Oberlin is now 4-2-4 overall and 1-0-1 in the NCAC.

Sophomore forward Shane Price (Minford, Ohio/Minford) scored the goal for the Tigers, a timely score midway through the second half that erased all the frustration of a night of missed offensive chances. His unassisted score matched Oberlin's Zack Tesler, who scored 15 minutes into the first half after a midfield turnover.

While Wittenberg had the upper hand in shots, 10-8, and corner kicks, 6-2, the Yeomen had two golden opportunities to win the game outright. Just moments before the storm arrived, Oberlin missed a penalty kick and then a shot from the top of the penalty box clanged off the top of the goal, bounding straight down and kicking back into play, where the Tigers managed to clear it.

Wittenberg's goalkeeper tandem of junior Ben McAnnis-Entenman (Portland, Ore./Cleveland) and senior Adam Horrocks (Delaware, Ohio/Hayes) combined for five saves, while Oberlin's Clayton Combe was credited with three, all in the first half.
