Wittenberg vs. St. Vincent, March 23, 1999



Wittenberg hosted St. Vincent College of Pennsylvania prepared for a tough match-up as the Bearcats had lost to Wingate and beat Oberlin by similar scores earlier in the season. St. Vincent came out and scored the first goal, but the Tigers quickly answered to tie the game and then took the lead with two more goals in the first quarter. Billy Habermeyer scored two goals with assists by Mario Cassani and Mark Burrell and Justin Bitner scored with an assist by Nick Reed. The Tigers ended the first quarter with a 3-2 lead.

The Tiger offense stepped up the pace in the second quarter and scored six goal on nine shots to take a commanding 9-2 lead into the second half. Cassani scored two goals and had an assist while Habermeyer added another goal and two assists. Burrell, Eric Clapp and Nick Reed each scored a goal for the Tigers. Goalie Michael Oliver had a fantastic quarter holding the Bearcats scoreless and recording seven saves for Wittenberg.

In the third quarter, the Tigers continued to play well and scored four more goals while St. Vincent's offense managed one goal. Wittenberg had a 13-3 lead at the end of the quarter with two goals by Habermeyer and one goal each by Dan Hillerich and Cassani. Mike Stormshak, Matt Gregory and Burrell each recorded an assist in the third quarter.

Wittenberg finished the game in a strong fashion nailing four more goals. Burrell added two more goals and Andy Stone and Alex Nichols each had a goal. The Tigers prevailed in the contest with a 17-6 final score.

Goalie Michael Oliver recorded 15 saves for the Tigers and led the team along with Dan Hillerich in groundballs with six.
