Tiger Cross Country Teams Set to Compete for NCAC Titles Again In 1997

In 1996 the Tiger men's cross country team finished one of their best seasons in history as they won their first-ever North Coast Athletic Conference Championship and finished 11th of 25 teams in the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional competition.

The Tiger women also had a strong finish in the conference, as they were sixth in the NCAC Championship meet.

For the 1997 season, the men's team will look to junior Nate Kaufman (Sandusky, O./Marion Elgin) to lead the team for this year. The women's team will look to juniors Vanessa Crossgrove (Perrysburg, O./Perrysburg), who was last year's women's MVP, and Jen Campbell (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) to lead their team in 1997 as both women finished strong seasons in 1996.

But the men will be without three outstanding runners who have graduated, including Layne Schweir and David Norton who were All-NCAC second team selections, as well as Nathan Anderson who was an All-NCAC honorable mention in 1996. The women's team is expected to make even further improvements this season. Look for seniors Jen Fike (Granville, O./Granville) and Manoh Doe (Lanham, Md./Parkdale) to also contribute experience and strength to the team.

Although both teams are coming off of excellent seasons, they are still expected to improve and be strong contenders for NCAC Championships in 1997.
