SEASON RECAP
The Wittenberg men's basketball team added to their NCAA Division III
all-time mark for victories (1,370) as they completed the 1998-99 season
with an overall mark of 19-7. The Tigers North Coast Athletic Conference
record of 12-4 earned them a second place finish in the regular season
standings. The Tigers defeated Denison University in the quarterfinal
round of post-season tournament play before falling in the semi-final
round to Allegheny.
A strong start to the season saw the Tigers win nine of their first eleven
games which included wins over NAIA scholarship schools Cedarville and
Walsh University in the Wittenberg/Kiwanis Holiday Classic title game.
Wittenberg followed the tournament with convincing home court victories
over NCAC rivals Wooster and Allegheny.
Faced with a difficult, late season conference schedule and a season
ending injury to four-year starter Lou Stahl, the Tigers were unable to
maintain their good early season play. Wittenberg faltered on the road
with losses to Wooster and then back-to-back games against Case Reserve
and Allegheny in two days. The Tigers were able to finish the season in
strong style with victories in the final five regular season games.
