2001 Wittenberg Golf Press Releases


May 2, 2001 - The Wittenberg golf team completed its 2001 season by finishing fourth in the NCAC Tournament at Hiram. The Tigers put together their best and most consistent performance of the season in pulling off the fourth-place finish in the eight-team field. That finish equalled the team's best NCAC conclusion since the 1996 team wound up second. Wittenberg was also fourth in 1999.

All five Tiger players put together solid two-day totals. Leading the way sophomore Steve Spittle (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman), who finished with a 36-hole total of 163, good for 11th place individually.
He was followed by sophomore Pat Reist (Hamilton, Ohio/Hamilton) with a 164 and 12th place finish; sophomore Jonathan Orr (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon) with 165 and 15th place finish; freshman Adam Knowlton (Springfield, Ohio/Shawnee) with a 166 and 16th place finish; and sophomore Jesse Fyffe (Chillicothe, Ohio/Chillicothe) with a 170 and 20th place finish.


April 24, 2001 - Wittenberg tied for eighth out of 15 teams at the Wooster Invitational last weekend. Sophomore Steve Spittle (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) had a two-round total of 161 to lead the Tigers and rank 19th individually.

The Tigers played in the one-day Otterbein Invitational on Monday before playing in the NCAC tournament at Hiram Friday and Saturday.


April 18, 2001 - Wittenberg finished ninth at the Denison Invitational last weekend. Freshman Adam Knowlton (Springfield, Ohio/Shawnee) led the Tigers with rounds of 76 and 75 for a 36-hole total of 151.

The Tigers now head into the stretch run of the 2001 campaign, starting with the Wooster Invitational this weekend. Then on Monday, Wittenberg will compete in the Otterbein Invitationl in preparation for the NCAC tournament at the end of this month.


April 12, 2001 - Wittenberg finished 11th out of 15 teams at the Kenyon Invitational last weekend. 

Freshman Adam Knowlton (Springfield, Ohio/Shawnee) had the Tigers best first round (80) and 36-hole (161) scores. Sophomore Jonathan Orr (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon) had Wittenberg's best score of the tournament with a second-round 78.



April 3, 2001 - Wittenberg made its regular season debut under new coach J.J. Searls on March 29-30 at the Muskingum Invitational and will compete April 7-8 at the Kenyon Invitational. 

The Tigers, coming off a sixth-place finish in the NCAC a year ago, got a good tournament out of its young team, which includes five sophomores and two freshmen. Sophomore Pat Reist (Hamilton, Ohio/Hamilton) topped the team with a tie for sixth place. Just behind Reist's two-day total of 147 was sophomore co-captain Steve Spittle (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman), who posted a 148, which was good for a tie for 11th.



March 28, 2001 - Three weeks after a Spring Break tune-up, the Wittenberg golf team will make its regular season debut under new coach J.J. Searls March 29-30 at the Muskingum Invitational. The Tigers, coming off a sixth-place finish in the NCAC a year ago, feature a very young team with five sophomores and two freshmen carrying the sticks this year.
