Wittenberg Picks Up Two Wins Against Muhlenberg

Sam Stough
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers kept their loss column empty Monday with a doubleheader sweep of Muhlenberg College by the decisive scores of 19-5 and 13-2.

Leading the charge in the early game was sophomore outfielder Sam Stough (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman), who went 4-5 from the plate and drove in two runs. Sophomore Chris Dorka (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington), 2-4 in the game, hustled out a three RBI triple and added an RBI single to drive in a game-leading four runs.

Sophomore pitcher Bobby Ciucki (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) picked up the win with a five inning, one earned run performance, giving up just six hits. Freshman Jim Clement (Chicago, Ill./Whitney Young) relieved Ciucki to start the sixth, recording three strikeouts in two innings of work to close out the game.

In the nightcap, junior outfielder Patrick Williams (Plainfield, Ind./Plainfield) led the way, going 3-4 at the plate and sending home four runs. Falling just a double short of the cycle, Williams tripled in the first inning and scored on a passed ball, then hit a lead-off home run in the third inning, before singling in the fourth.

Freshman pitcher Zach Spring (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) picked up the win in his first collegiate start or appearance. In five innings of work, Spring allowed six hits, struck out two and walked just one. Sophomore A.J. Bush (Troy, Ohio/Troy) started the sixth inning from the mound, allowing no runs and three hits to finish the game.

The Tigers return to the diamond Tuesday versus Farmingdale State with the first pitch slated for noon.
