Alumni Relations Noon Lunch & Learn Lecture Series Continues With Empty Bowls Presentation Nov. 16
Springfield, Ohio – The Wittenberg University Office of Alumni Relations presents its second Noon Lunch & Learn Lecture of the 2010-11 school year with Associate Professor of Art and Department Chair Scott Dooley, who will speak on “The Wittenberg Empty Bowls Program” at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16, in the Faculty Dining Room on the second floor of the Benham-Pence Student Center, 734 Woodlawn Avenue.
Participants may purchase a meal in Post 95 or the Center Dining Room, both located in the student center, or they may bring a meal from home. The event begins with lunch at 11:30 a.m., followed by the lecture and a question-and-answer period at 12:10 p.m.
Dooley joined the Wittenberg faculty in 2000 and has spearheaded Wittenberg’s popular annual Empty Bowls fundraising event since his arrival on campus and had previous experience with an Empty Bowls project in Phoenix, Ariz.
Students and volunteers threw more than 1,000 bowls for the 16th annual event in March 2010, which raised an unprecedented $35,233 for local food banks.
“We increased our total by more than $7,000 from 2009,” Dooley said. “I am continually amazed by Wittenberg and the Springfield community. During the challenging economic downturn of the last two years there have been many foundations and organizations that have been forced to cut funding. But we have been able increase our totals by over $14,000 during this two-year period. (This is) truly inspirational.”
A ceramist, Dooley’s artwork has been published in Ceramics Monthly, Claytimes and Pottery Making Illustrated and was selected to be included in the ceramic textbook Clay and Glazes for the Potter.
