A Community of Engaged Learners
Imagine being at a university where a professor is willing to rent out a hockey rink to help a student understand a physics concept? Imagine that same professor traveling 700 miles in a snowstorm to deliver a book, and then imagine the willingness of that professor to help as many students around the world as possible understand the concept of a tensor via a YouTube video that already boasts more than 50,000 views.
About The Project
Always looking for new ways to engage students in the active learning process, Fleisch recently created a first-of-its-kind astronomy lab at Wittenberg, one where students take the lead in sending a weather balloon into space. To make the lab student-centered, Fleisch separated the students into three teams -- electronics, payload calculations and geotracking. To their efforts, Fleisch added his own expertise and collaborative spirit, and the project is now turning the final frontier into a final grade that will impress employers and graduate schools alike.
