Title:  Lessons Learned Through the Integration of a Student Response System.
Abstract:  With the support of the Academic Computing Committee and funds secured from the WITTech fund, a student response system has been integrated into Education coursework to impact student learning and to model pedagogical supports with future teachers.  In this session, two Education faculty members will share their experience of using this technology in their courses taught.  Specifically, this session will focus on the following areas: 1) research and literature connected to student response systems, 2) pedagogical practices connected to student response systems, and 3) opportunities for use of student response systems within ones own area of teaching.  Additionally, participants will hear lessons learned and hurdles yet to be overcome to fully integrate this technology in the college classroom. This will be an interactive session with the opportunity for all participants to use the student response systems.

Title:  Utilitzing Facebook to Facilitate Group Projects
Abstract: In COMM 320 (relational communication) I assigned a project that required the entire class to work collaboratively on creating a relationship-focused magazine. I planted the seed for the class to use some form of social media to facilitate the project, but it was the students who ultimately elected to use Facebook to communicate outside of the class about the project. In the talk, not only will I discuss the use of Facebook in my own classes, but will discuss how it can be used across disciplines. Advantages and disadvantages of the technology will also be discussed.

Title:  CMap & Prezi: 21st Century Learning Tools that Promote Collaborative Generation of Knowledge
Abstract:  Visual representation of knowledge helps promote students learning of content. Two free applications that allow learners to visually represent their knowledge are Cmap and Prezi. Cmap is a concept mapping application that can be used for offline or online, synchronous or asynchronous, individual or collaborative learning. Prezi is an online presentation application that can be used for asynchronous, individual or collaborative learning. This Witt Tech Talk will focus on how I have used these applications to promote classroom community and content learning. I will also present a little research about the effectiveness of concept mapping and share how I have used Cmap for course and program planning.
