Wittenberg Scholarships

Each year Wittenberg recognizes and rewards outstanding scholastic achievements by awarding merit-based scholarships and special awards to deserving students.

Students are encouraged to apply for admission by December 1 for priority consideration of all scholarships and awards.

Merit-Based Scholarships

Students may receive one merit-based scholarship. Scholarship amounts are subject to change with changes to Wittenberg’s tuition.
 

Merit-Based Scholarship Scholarship Amount Academic Profile of Recent Recipients /Guidelines Details
Provost Scholarship Starting at $18,000 By invitation only

Wittenberg recognizes and rewards its most academically-talented incoming students with the invitation to compete for the Provost Scholarship. Qualified students are invited to demonstrate their abilities to the Wittenberg faculty through our on-campus scholarship competition. Of this competitive pool, select Provost scholars will gain entrance to the University Honors Program and receive the privilege to live in the honors residence hall.

Wittenberg Scholar Award Starting at $8,000   Based on academic achievement, personal references and continued success in co-curricular activities.
Honor Award Starting at $2,000   Based on good citizenship, personal references and involvement in co-curricular activities.
Martin Luther Scholarship $20,000 3.5+ GPA

This competitive scholarship is awarded to select Lutheran students each year who are nominated by a Lutheran pastor by Oct. 31 and exhibit a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.

Broadwell Chinn Award $16,000 3.25 + GPA This scholarship recognizes diversity among students who have maintained at least a 3.25 cumulative GPA.
Lutheran Pastor-Parent/Lay Worker-Parent Grant Half tuition   Available to dependent children of full-time Lutheran pastors serving a recognized call or call to special service; or to dependent children of full-time church workers in Lutheran ministries.
Yellow Ribbon Grant Full tuition   Offered to military veterans and/or their families. The recipient must be a child of a military veteran who served post 9/11. The scholarship, when combined with other VA benefits, provides up to full tuition to qualifying applicants.
Phi Theta Kappa Grant Half tuition   Offered to any transfer student who is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and has maintained good academic standing.

Special Interest Awards

If selected, students may receive up to one Special Interest Award in addition to one Merit-Based Scholarship. These scholarships require a separate application.
 

Special Interest Awards Scholarship Amount Academic Profile of Recent Recipients /Guidelines Details
Special Interest Award in Community Engagement $2,500 Jan. 15 deadline This competitive award recognizes students who demonstrate a sustained commitment to community service and exhibit critical thinking and problem solving skills.
Special Interest Award in Student Leadership $2,500 Jan. 15 deadline This competitive award recognizes superior leadership experience. Three scholarships are awarded each year.
Special Interest Award in East Asian Business $2,500 Jan. 15 deadline This award recognizes students who demonstrate a passion for East Asian culture, business and economics.
Special Interest Award in Art Starting at $1,000 Jan. 15 deadline Up to 20 recent works should be included in a PowerPoint presentation format. Recipients must maintain at least an art minor and be in good standing in the program.
Special Interest Award in Music Up to $5,000 March 15 deadline Music scholarships are available to all students regardless of major, and are renewable annually for four years. Further information is available at www.wittenberg.edu/music/scholarships

Special Interest Award in Theatre

Special Interest Award in Dance

Starting at $1,000 March 1 deadline Interested students must schedule an audition or interview by March 1. Scholarship guidelines are available at www.wittenberg.edu/theatre. Recipients must actively participate in the theatre or dance program at Wittenberg, regardless of major or minor.
Thespian Scholar Award $5,000   Ohio Thespian Directors who have led their troupes for five years or longer may nominate one student each year. The nomination form is available at www.wittenberg.edu/theatre. The scholarship is awarded based solely on the student’s nomination.
Legacy Book Award Up to $500 per semester, or $4,000 over four years   Recipient must be a child or grandchild of a Wittenberg alumna/alumnus. This award is for purchasing school books in the Wittenberg bookstore.
Bill Martin Scholarship Full tuition over four years December 1 deadline

Recipient must reside in Washtenaw County, Michigan and be an incoming student in the class of 2017 - Apply Here

Rochester Area Scholarship $10,000 December 1 deadline Awarded to incoming freshman of the Rochester, NY area - Apply Here


In addition to scholarship opportunities, students may apply for need-based financial aid by submitting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 1. This form is available online.
