Information For Students

The main point to make about the Wittenberg Writing Center is that we are an active learning center. We believe in working collaboratively with writers, not in giving directions. Our goal, as advisors, is to prompt revision through questions and conversation, so you should expect a productive, two-way session between you and your advisor whenever you come to the Center.

Writing advisors in the Writing Center work with any writer on any project at any stage of the writing process.

Writers: You are welcome to bring your writing to the Center for another perspective. We work with writers of all abilities. Even writing advisors make use of the Writing Center by bringing their work in for other advisors to read. No matter who you are, no matter how you write, consulting with an advisor can make your writing stronger and more effective.

Projects: Writing advisors represent experience in a variety of academic fields--not just English or the humanities. Sure, we work with your creative writing and analytical essays, but our services extend to all areas, from lab reports to résumés to critical reading. If you are working on writing for any class, or just for your own enjoyment, bring it to the Writing Center for another perspective.

Stages: You don't need to have a complete draft to use the Center's services. In fact, you don't need to have any writing completed. We can help you at any stage in the writing process, from brainstorming a topic to polishing a final draft. Wherever you are with your project, a writing advisor can help you get to the next step.

Services: You can stop by the Writing Center for consultation any time during our operating hours--no appointment is necessary.  However, if you wish to make an appointment with a specific advisor, please stop by or call the center at 327-6154.   If you like, you can schedule a series of sessions to meet with an advisor regularly.

Writing Advisors: Who We Are

Writing advisors are Wittenberg students, from sophomores to seniors, who have a strong interest in writing and working with others. Advisors have all taken English 242, a semester-long, full-credit course that focuses on style, revision, and advising strategies. Bringing your writing to a writing advisor can help you see it from a reader's perspective. To read more about our advisors, click here
