Which majors cannot study abroad? 

It is, of course, more difficult to fit a study abroad program into the academic program of some majors than others. However, when the study abroad process is started early, most every major has the opportunity to pursue some sort of study abroad program. Often it is best to discuss your desire to study abroad with your academic advisor; he or she will be able to inform you of any academic restrictions in your major.

Is knowledge of a foreign language required in order to study abroad?

Students wishing to study in an English-speaking country or environment have many options. Programs in Great Britain, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, etc. offer excellent opportunities for students in every major. Often students find programs in such countries that are specifically geared toward their academic interests. A variety of English-speaking programs exist in non-English-speaking environments. Programs in Sweden and Denmark, for example, offer complete university instruction in English, while the students live with native host families.

When can I study abroad?

Most students study abroad during their junior year, although some students choose to study abroad for one semester during the fall of their senior year. A student must, however, finish a minimum of four semesters before he or she may study abroad.

How do I choose a program?

Students interested in studying abroad can set up an appointment with the director of International Education, JoAnn Bennett. During your interview, the director will be able to inform you of your many options for studying abroad, and how studying abroad can fit into your academic program.

How many students study abroad?

Every year more than 100 students from Wittenberg study abroad. Some programs last only a few weeks during semester break, or take place over the summer for 1-2 months. Other programs last a semester or an entire academic year. Almost 20% of Wittenberg's student body will have an international experience sometime during their 4 years of undergraduate study. In addition, over 100 foreign students attend Wittenberg every year. This student population, along with American International Association (AIA), contributes to WIttenberg's general international awareness.

Where can I study abroad?

The possibilities are limited only by your initiative and the limitations of your major. Wittenberg students have spent time abroad studying in Buddhist temples; others have studied in the safari in Kenya. The majority of students choose to go to Asia or Europe, but the choices are certainly not limited to these destinations.
