A profile of the Geography Department

Take a look at what past grads from Witt have done with their majors – internships, grad school programs, and first jobs after graduation.  It’s not always as cut and dried as you think; a Liberal Arts degree has a lot of flexibility!
Geography

Tailor the major to your interest

Widely respected in the field, Wittenberg’s geography program is the only program of its kind at any private university in Ohio. The program allows you to focus in one of three areas:

  • Environmental studies, centering on the relationship between people and their environment;
  • GIS, Geographic Information Systems, focusing on digital data analysis and computer mapping
  • Urban planning, focusing on urban land use change, zoning and other planning tools

Complementing classroom study is hands-on work in our well-equipped on-site GIS lab, internships, co-op programs and study abroad. Wittenberg graduates have gone on to rewarding careers such as regional and urban planners, environmentalists and GIS specialists. Typically nearly half of Wittenberg’s geography graduates pursue further study in graduate programs.
