Steven C. Reynolds

Professor of Theatre and Dance Dr. Steve Reynolds taught courses in acting, playwriting, dramatic literature, art of the theatre, and a Witt Sem for new students on documentary theatre.  In addition, he directed classic and contemporary plays and musicals for the Department of Theatre and Dance such as As You Like It, My Fair Lady, and the college premiere of Janie Miller’s World Tour by John Cassel (’98).  He has been a member of the Executive Committee of the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival serving as Member-at-Large for the National Playwriting Program; elected to the KCACTF National Selection Team; and is past Chair of NPP for Region III.  He produced and directed it is no desert by Dan Stroeh (’01) which received the National Student Playwriting Award and was performed at the Kennedy Center.  He has served on the Board of Trustees of The Cape Cod Repertory Theatre in Brewster, MA where he directed a Julie Harris tribute production of The Member of the Wedding and the Irish comedy, Stones in His Pockets.  At Wittenberg Reynolds received the Omicron Delta Kappa Award for Excellence in Teaching, the Matthies Research Award and the Alumni Association's 2012 Distinguished Teaching Award.  He is the recipient of a National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Seminar Grant to study American playwrights at Columbia University and he has received a Kennedy Center Gold Medallion Award from Region III for “extraordinary contributions to the teaching and producing of theatre and to the development of KCACTF.”  Reynolds directed a showcase production of Llyod’s Prayer in Hollywood with theatre alumni and originated and coordinated Wittenberg's national Martin Luther Playwriting Contest and directed the winning production, George Jolly's Life of Martin Luther.  Reynolds has published several reviews and articles and led or contributed to panels at national theatre conferences.  He has been a guest lecturer at the University of Michigan, The Ohio State University, Kent State University, and a guest director at Mira Costa College in California.  Reynolds holds a B.A. from Tufts University and M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Michigan. Reynolds joined the Wittenberg faculty in 1981 and retired in 2012. He now resides in Cape Cod..
