Noyce Mentors

The STEM Teacher Learning Community will bring together pre-service teachers with mentors for professional development opportunities. During their first year of teaching, Noyce Scholars will communicate regularly with their mentors through the Fifth Year Project and visit with them at Wittenberg as part of an annual gathering of the Learning Community.

Extended Student Teaching/Mentoring Program

Master STEM teachers, the Noyce Scholars' Wittenberg STEM Major advisor, and a STEM Education faculty member will mentor Noyce Scholars beginning with their sophomore year and continuing through their first year of teaching.

During their sophomore, junior, and senior years, Noyce Scholars will be placed in Master STEM teachers’ classrooms for field work and meet regularly with their mentors to discuss their coursework, field experiences, and challenges and opportunities associated with their chosen career path.  (Note:  Scholars may also do field work in other classrooms.)

During their student teaching experience senior year, in addition to the regular and customary observations and supervisory support from the Education Department, Noyce Scholars will be observed by all 3 mentors on 2 occasions—one live and a second videotaped—and then meet with the mentors to review their performance.  The opportunity for feedback from the multiple perspectives provided by the mentors will provide Scholars’ with unique insight on their teaching performance and student learning.

Mentors are asked to attend our Witt Noyce Programs, which will annually include two colloquia featuring speakers on STEM or STEM education topics and a third session designed specifically to bring recent Wittenberg graduates who are STEM teachers back to campus to share their experiences
