Music ScholarshipsRequirements | Audition Request Wittenberg University’s Music Department combines an excellent faculty, first-rate facilities, and wide range of music degrees in the midst of a small, residential college. Am I eligible for a music scholarship?More than $100,000 in total music-scholarship funding is available to all students, regardless of major. Several dozen scholarships are awarded each year. How do I apply?Applying requires an audition, no later than March 31, 2009; and an audition is required for all students who plan to major in music. A live audition is preferred. Use our online Audition Request Form to choose one of our 2008-2009 Music Audition Days listed below, or request a different date, or submit a recorded audition (if distance makes a trip to Wittenberg impractical).
What should I perform?Instrumentalists: Choose two compositions, movements, or etudes in contrasting style, including one that demonstrates technical proficiency. About ten minutes total duration. And be prepared to play major and minor scales (melodic or harmonic), up to four sharps and four flats, two or three octaves. Singers: Choose two contrasting songs—one in English and, if possible, one in a foreign language. About ten minutes total duration. What should I do after I submit my Audition Request Form?1. Ask two teachers to fill out and send in recommendation forms (PDF). 2. If you are a singer, an accompanist will be provided for your audition. Mail copies of your Dr. Daniel Kazez Where is Wittenberg’s music building?Krieg Hall (the music building) is at the corner of Ward Street and Woodlawn Avenue. Using these online directions, Krieg Hall is the first building on the left after turning right (west) on Ward Street. Before visiting Wittenberg, you might wish to consult this list of Springfield hotels. What else do I need to know?Music scholarships range from $600 to $5,000 and are renewable annually for four years, as long as the recipient is in good academic standing and fulfils the requirements of the scholarship. All students, regardless of major, are eligible; music majors are eligible for the highest music scholarships. Financial need is not a determining factor for a music scholarship. For information on need-based financial aid, contact Admissions by telephone (1-877-206-0332) or email (admission@wittenberg.edu).
