Fernando A. Blanco was born in Santiago, Chile. He joined Wittenberg as Assistant Professor of Spanish and Cultural Studies. He is a graduate of the Universidad de Chile where he earned his BA on Hispanic Linguistics and Literatures and an MA on Literary Theory. He also earned a Diplome on Cultural Studies from U ARCIS in Santiago. He got his Ph D in Latin American Literatures and Cultures with a specialization in Literary Theory and Sexuality Studies from The Ohio State University. His research interests include Sexualities and Cultures in Latin America, Gender Studies, Memory Studies, Trauma Studies and Visual Arts and Literatures in Latin America, with a focus on Chile, Cuba, Argentina and lately Brazil and Nicaragua. He has co-authored a Language Textbook, Lenguaje y Literatura 6th grade (Mc Graw Hill: Santiago de Chile,1998);  edited the book  Reinas de Otro Cielo: Modernidad y Autoritarismo en la Obra de Pedro Lemebel  (LOM: Santiago, 2004);  co-edited the book, Desdén al Infortunio. Sujeto, comunicación y público en la narrativa de Pedro Lemebel. (Cuarto Propio:Santiago de Chile, 2010) and authored Desmemoria y perversión. Privatizar lo Público. Mediatizar lo Intimo. Administrar lo Privado., (Cuarto Propio: Santiago de Chile, 2010).  He is also editing a special issue on Mexican writer Carlos Monsiváis’work for Taller de Letras Review, Catholic University of Chile.
