Goals of  FYP:
The first year of college is the foundation upon which the entire academic experience is built.  FYP is here to help you build that solid foundation for life-long academic, personal, and professional success. FYP offers educational opportunities and support services that will facilitate your transition to Wittenberg and your skill and character development so that you might be prepared to make good choices as you navigate through your four years at Wittenberg.

FYP was created to provide programming that is comprehensive in scope and addresses the importance of academic and intellectual development, the importance of becoming globally aware, the commitment to understanding diversity, the value of engaging in one’s community, and the need to seek balance between mind, body and spirit. To promote leadership, confidence, and community engagement, we help every student develop intellectual capabilities, aesthetic sense, physical well-being, spiritual identity and social relationships.

We believe the creation of  comprehensive FYP is fundamental, but only the beginning of the Witt experience that awaits our students. Students, we hope, will begin to build the foundation they need as they begin a new stage in their life. This foundation will enable them to rise to the challenge of engaging others on their own terms if they choose to travel abroad, to pursue a double-major as they stretch themselves academically in ways they hadn’t imagine, to perform in one of our many stage-productions by taking on a role or joining a production team, to make connections with students from different backgrounds, to build relationships with faculty who are educator-scholars deeply committed to student success, and to contribute to the betterment of the world through their compassionate engagement both with the Wittenberg community and with Springfield/Clark County in ways that demonstrate a profound commitment to serving others.
