hen first-year student Taylor Hiner received the assignment, she was uncertain of either idea or approach. Her final submission to the nationally broadcast program, 'This I Believe', benefited directly from her deliberations, since she joins an esteemed few students whose work has been accepted by this well-regarded publication. Working with Associate Professor Fitz Smith in his English 101 course, 'The Art of the Essay', Taylor crafted a successful essay after a series of grueling revisions and an intense peer-editing workshop. English department faculty and students joined to commemorate the passing of author J.D. Salinger with our First Annual Read-A-Thon, held two weeks ago in the Hollenbeck atrium.
