Debra G. Mallonee, Instructor in Education, joined the Department of Education in August of 2006 and teaches curriculum, instruction, and literacy courses in the middle childhood program.  She previously taught reading, children’s and young adult literature, and educational psychology at Cedarville University and the Ohio State University.

Mrs. Mallonee’s areas of specialization are middle childhood education, middle school philosophy and organization, and early adolescent literacy.  She has extensive experience in middle level education, having taught language arts and music in nearby Fairborn City Schools for 26 years and also serving as the coordinator of student services and peer mediation at Baker Middle School. 

Mrs. Mallonee also was a consultant at the Ohio Department of Education for two years where she helped to develop and implement statewide policy regarding higher education initiatives and the requirements of the federal No Child Left Behind legislation. 

Mrs. Mallonee is active in several professional associations, including the National Middle School Association where she serves as a program reviewer to evaluate middle childhood teacher education licensure programs for the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). 

Mrs. Mallonee received her B.A. in music education in 1974 from Anderson University, her M.Ed. in school administration and curriculum/supervision in 1981 from Wright State University, and is completing her doctoral work in middle grades teacher education from the Ohio State University.  In her spare time, she is an avid reader of young adult literature and enjoys playing the piano.
