Math Education
Gina Post, Assistant Professor of Education, joined the department in August, 2007. She teaches mathematics content courses for elementary and middle grade teachers and mathematics methods courses. Previously she was a member of the Department of Teaching and Learning at the University of Utah where she taught courses in classroom management, learning theory, mathematics methods, and curriculum perspectives in both undergraduate and graduate programs.
Dr. Post received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Cincinnati, and her Master’s and Doctoral degrees in mathematics education from the University of Utah. Prior to her doctoral studies, she was an elementary and middle grades public school mathematics teacher. She has facilitated and coordinated multiple mathematics professional development seminars, served on various local and state mathematics education committees including the writing of the Utah State Mathematics Core Curriculum, and recently received the “Lifetime Achievement Award in Mathematics Education” from the Utah Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
Dr. Post’s recent publications, research, and national presentations are in the areas of teacher content knowledge and learning, teachers’ participation with curriculum materials, and the development of communities of learners in educational contexts. Her most recent work with pre-service and in-service teachers focused on bringing both groups of teachers together as a community of learners to explore content and pedagogical issues in mathematics education.
